LARGE VICTORIAN BROWN TRANSFERWARE PLATTER

DAFFODIL PATTERN

W. H. Grindley and Co. Potteries

Tunstall, Staffordshire England

c. 1882

This delightful Victorian aesthetic 18 " x 13 3/8 " serving platter is transfer printed in rich dark Brown with a pearlware glaze.  I love this pattern, makes me dream of springtime.

The pattern features oversized Daffodils, wild grasses and flowering phlox gracing the well of the platter with a landscape scene of a young boy watching a sailing vessel rounding a huge castle.  Repeating vignettes of luscious Daffodils along the rim.

The piece is marked on the underside with an impressed registration mark, the pattern name and trademark that identifies the maker as Grindley, a pottery maker working in Tunstall in the Staffordshire region of England during the 19th century.

The piece is in great condition.
