AESTHETIC BROWN TRANSFERWARE PLATE
JAPAN PATTERN
Gildea and Walker Potteries ~ Late Mayers
Tunstall, Staffordshire England ~ c. 1883
This 9 3/8 " Victorian aesthetic plate is transfer printed in chocolate brown with highlights in gold lustre.
The pattern features geometric designs along the outer rim surrounding panels filled with Japanesque Camellia and jasmine flowers and fruit filled branches of oriental plums. The central image has Lotus and Waterlily buds and flowers and their exciting leaves shimmering in the water. The pottery of Gildea and Walker produced some of the most elegant ceramics of the aesthetic movement. This pattern is the cream of the crop and a very desirable pattern.
Condition is great, never used. No chips, no cracks, no hairlines and no repairs.
