Brown Transferware Staffordshire Plate ~ FLOSCULOUS 1835
STAFFORDSHIRE BROWN TRANSFERWARE PLATE
FLOSCULOUS PATTERN
William Ridgway and Co.
Staffordshire, England c 1835
This outstanding large brown transferware plate measures 10” 3/8 in diameter. It is crisply transfer printed in a very dark brown with a pearlware glaze.
The plate has a wonderful wavy scalloped edge and a very ornate pattern of an oversized pinwheel mixed with bellflowers and carnations. This is a rare pattern rarely seen on the market for sale.
The term Flosculous refers to the joining or marriage of the flower petals.
The plate displays beautifully. No chips, no cracks, no hairlines and no repairs. Plates in this wonderful pattern don't come along often especially without damage, and the contrast and composition is especially beautiful in this rich very dark color.
