This is a colorful hand painted transferware plate, c. 1900, from the genre of rabbit ware plates that have become very popular. Very little is known about the actual origin of these wonderfully whimsical rabbit wares.
Rabbitware is a combination of transfer printing and stick sponge or spatterware. The plate measures 9 1/4 inches in diameter and transfer printed in rare brown and painted with enamels in red, blue, yellow, brown and green. Four rectangled cartouches filled:
Picnic ~ Reading ~ Sharing Lettuce ~ Sharing Cabbages
Never Used. The piece is in outstanding condition. There are no chips, cracks, or repairs.
