BROWN TRANSFER-WARE PLATTER
Burslem, Staffordshire England c. 1886
This excellent patterned Victorian large 15 7/8 " long x 12” " wide platter is transfer printed in dark brown. The pattern features a spectacular Crab perched above two fabulous carouches of sailing ships. Exciting varieties of Seaweed and a cluster of Seashells wrap around all the images. This pattern is the height of the aesthetic movement and considered the Holy grail of Aesthetic Transferware. Fully marked.
Probably never used. The platter is in very good condition with no utensil damage, no cracks, no hairlines and no repairs. A tiny glaze flake chip at the top of the crab’s claw.
