AESTHETIC BROWN TRANSFERWARE PLATTER
FAISAN PATTERN
Mintons Potteries
Staffordshire England
c. 1880
This outstanding Victorian aesthetic 14 1/2 " long x 11 " wide platter is transfer printed in dark brown.
The pattern features a Pheasant cartouche surrounded by magnificent tulip tree blossoms and foliage. A darker inset feature buds and blossoms of water iris. Surrounding all of this beauty is a wildly geometric border separated by 6 panels with cherry blossom branches. An exceptional pattern.
The piece is marked on the underside with an impressed registration mark, the pattern name and trademark that identifies the maker as Mintons, a pottery maker working in the Staffordshire region of England during the 19th century.
The piece is in great condition, shiny and bright. No chips, no cracks, no hairlines and no repairs. Light utensil wear. It is absolutely gorgeous - elegant and well potted, with richly detailed transfers reflecting the Victorian love of the exotic.
