Genuine Victorian Transfer Printed Stoneware Cream Pot ~ 1880
WIGTOWNSHIRE CREAMERY CO.
STRANRAER, SCOTLAND
c. 1880
This is a fabulous stoneware transfer printed cream pot or crock, circa 1880, salvaged from a Victorian tip in the UK. It once contained Pure Fresh Cream from the Wigtownshire Creamery Co. in Stranraer, Scotland.
The sturdy stoneware crock was made possibly in Glasgow Scotland, and is transfer printed in brown and the pottery is basic stoneware. It features the image of a milkmaid holding a bucket and milking stool, surrounded by a scrolled cartouche showing the name of the creamery.
The crock stands 4 1/4” tall, in great condition, the clearest transfer we have seen.
This delightful piece is a lovely a throwback to a much simpler time in the world of dairy advertising products. It will make a great addition to any collection of transfer printed advertising wares or kitchen wares, and would make a stunning flower holder on your window sill! A sturdy piece with loads of charm.
