Staffordshire, England ~ c.1900
Only one I have seen in this large half gallon size, rare for the collector.
This is a colorful hand painted transferware water jug, c. 1900, from the genre of rabbit ware plates that have become very popular. Very little is known about the actual origin of these wonderfully whimsical rabbit wares.
Rabbitware is a combination of transfer printing and stick sponge or spatterware. The large pitcher measures 8 1/4 inches in tall x 8 1/2 inches wide including applied handle and transfer printed in rare pea green and painted with enamels in red, blue, yellow, brown and green. Four rectangled cartouches filled with Sing along chorus ~ Rabbit family outing ~ Reading ~ Dancing ~ Musicians
Probably Never Used. The piece is in very good condition with a stable hairline crack along the handle. Fabulous find.
