VICTORIAN AESTHETIC ERA

BLACK TRANSFERWARE POT LID

POTTED TONGUE

Made in the Staffordshire Region of England

c. 1885

This Victorian 4 3/8” wide x 2 " tall covered ceramic earthenware container was made during Victorian times and contained a delicious Potted Tongue paste.  During Victorian and Edwardian times, these pots allowed people to keep these staple food pastes without spoiling.  Mmmm, potted tongue meat on toast !

The pieces are in good condition. A small chip to the front of the lid and a few nibbles along to flanges, where the two pieces meet.
