Genuine Victorian Transfer Printed
PYRAMID NIGHT LIGHT ~ FAIRY LAMP
Stoneware Liner

Staffordshire England c. 1895

This is a fabulous tiny transferware crock, circa 1895, salvaged from a Victorian tip in England. Measuring just 2-3/8" in diameter, it was made as part of a Clarke's Pyramid Night Light, aka Fairy Lamp, a popular form of lighting that predated household electricity. (Samuel Clarke was a designer of lighting devices in England. His patent from 1885 was the basis for all fairy lamps, which comprised a glass cup and glass dome cover. Fairy lamps were extremely popular during the 1880s and '90s. and continued to be popular inot the early 1900s.  The transferware disc, decorated with an illustration of a fairy lamp, and the words "For Clarke's Patent Pyramid Night Lights", lined the glass cup base of a Fairy Lamp. They remain highly collectible today.

The little dish was made in the Staffordshire district of England.  It is in excellent condition, with no chips, cracks or repairs. Light discoloration to the bottom.  This diminutive little piece is a delicious little throwback to a much simpler time in the world of lighting. The piece will make a great addition to any collection of transfer printed advertising wares. We have listed a few other crocks and pots from the same era, and are happy to combine shipping of multiple purchases.
