This Victorian era 5 3/ 4 " tall x 4 " wide tankard excluding the handle is transfer printed in dark blue.
This earthenware tankard depicts flying cranes, the Japanese symbol for longevity, with stylized waves in white on a deep blue ground and Christopher Dresser’s classic Greek key pattern impressed between the elevated lines of blue. Dresser clearly looked to Japanese sources for inspiration and artistic guidance.
The piece is in outstanding condition, appears to have never been used. Clean shiny and bright and there are no chips, no cracks, no hairline and no repairs. Museum quality.
