RARE SIZE ~ TIN ALPHABET ABC PLATE
GIRL ON SWING
Ohio Art Company USA ~ c.1920
rare small size 3 1/2 inches wide
This winsome tin cup plate was made by the Ohio Art Company, Bryan, Ohio, an
American company which was a premier manufacturer of old tin
toys. The plate bears the stamp "Ohio Art Co. Bryan, O. U.S.A." The
tray was made in the 1920’s as part of a toy tea set titled "Girl on a Swing". It
was one of the earliest toy tea sets, and among the first that included the alphabet.
This Tray features the alphabet around the perimeter, surrounding a
lithographed illustration of a happy girl swinging on a swing, a very colorful and beautifully executed design. These tin litho miniature or toy teasets were made as doll house accessories or for childhood tea parties, and were used to aid in the education of young children. The pattern is discussed and illustrated in the book “Ohio Art World of Toys”.
The small cup plate is from a child's tea set from the early 20th century. Condition is good with very light wear and edge rust.
