AESTHETIC MOVEMENT STAFFORDSHIRE POLYCHROME TRANSFERWARE PLATTER
GILDEA AND WALKER POTTERIES
Tunstall, Staffordshire England ~ c. 1885
This very large outstanding 18 1/2 inches long x 14 1/2 inches wide platter is transfer printed in black and has fabulous polychrome hand painting under the glaze in colors of cherry pink, robin's egg blue, bright yellow and green .. Wow !
Capturing the Victorian love of nature during the aesthetic movement, this platter is transfer printed with geometric designs, the sun coming over the horizon, a flock of songbirds, sailboats, flowers and bamboo and an Owl perched as the moon and stars come out at night. My favorite pattern in aesthetic transferware, it has everything.
The condition of this huge platter is great. No sign of use.
