English Ironstone AVERY Meat Cheesemonger Dairy Shop Display c1890

SOLD OUT

Code: 10113

This late 19th century ironstone display stand dates to c 1890. Originally used for displaying meat, butter and other dairy products on the grocer’s shop counter. It measures 14 3/4 inches long x 9 1/2 inches wide x 1 1/2” tall.  One of the best transfer printed makers marks ever.

The stand maker is unknown. (We have seen similar stands marked with stamps of Wedgwood Doulton and MAW.  A sturdy stand was meant for the heavy duty trade use and easily adaptable to a country kitchen or a contemporary cheese and wine shop.

The stand is in good condition with a chip to the underside railing, spots of minor discoloration and utensil marks.  The workmanship is similar to early plumbing fitting, was meant to be durable. The transfer is distinct and very uncommon. A great example, offered as is.
