10 AESTHETIC BLACK TRANSFERWARE PLATES
INDUS PATTERN
Ridgways Potteries
Stoke on Trent, Staffordshire England
c. 1885
These Victorian aesthetic 9 1/4 " plates are transfer printed in dark black. The pattern features some of the most outrageous looking birds the potteries artist could imagine. A rim of wildly tropical flowers with hummingbirds. The well of the plates have aquatic orchid type flowers beneath two most unusual and exotic birds. A marvel of the imagination.
The plates are marked on the underside with an impressed registration mark, the pattern name and trademark that identifies the maker as Ridgway, a pottery maker working at Stoke on Trent in the Staffordshire region of England during the 19th century.
Great condition.
