BROWN TRANSFERWARE STAFFORDSHIRE PLATTER

MYSORE PATTERN

Made in the Staffordshire Region of England by:
Edge and Malkin Potteries
c. 1880

This Victorian aesthetic 14 " long x 9 7/8 " wide serving platter is transfer printed in brown.  Lightly scalloped rim and impressed leaves in the corners.

The platter is very busy with outrageous Japanesque geometrics and a plethora of flowers and foliage along with different scenes.  Birds and butterflies, flowers and a lake scene blend with the cartouches of a water bird and a sailing vessel out to sea.  The designs are the height of the aesthetic movement. An amazing platter with a rare transfer all the way to the edge, Bengal shape.

The piece is marked on the underside with an impressed registration mark, the pattern name and trademark that identifies the maker as Edge Malkin, a pottery maker working in the Staffordshire region of England during the 19th century.

The piece is in great condition, clean shiny and bright.  No chips, no cracks, no hairlines and no repairs.
