EARLY CHILDS TRANSFERWARE MUG
A PRESENT FOR MARY
Staffordshire England ~ c. 1830
This is a child's christening mug, circa 1830. This diminutive piece stands 2 1/2 " tall x 2 3/4 " wide with an applied loop handle. The mug is light weight and beautifully potted.
It is transfer printed in rich brown with a pearlware glaze. A thick brown stripe is painted to the inside of the mug. The named mug " A Present For Mary " is wrapped in a Victorian cartouche of flowers and vines.
The piece is unmarked. It most certainly was made in the Staffordshire district. The mug is in exceptional condition. No chips, no cracks, no hairlines and no repairs. Children's early mugs of this quality is quite scarce and highly sought after.
