TWO AESTHETIC BROWN TRANSFERWARE SOUP / RICE PLATES
GARFIELD PATTERN
Wallis Gimson Potteries
Staffordshire England
c. 1885
This large Victorian aesthetic 9 7/8 " dinner soup plates are transfer printed in dark chocolate brown with a hint of gold.
The pattern features a fantastic wide, busy band of Japanesque cartouches and alternating geometric flourishes with butterflies hidding among the flowers. Cascading cabbage roses spill into the well.
The piece is marked on the underside with an impressed registration mark, the pattern name, the retail intials L.S. & S./ Levi Strauss and Son and the Beehive trademark that identifies the maker as Wallis Gimson, a pottery maker working in Fenton in the Staffordshire region of England from 1884-1890.
Never Used. The pieces are in great condition, bright, shiny and clean.
