FOUR AESTHETIC TRANSFERWARE POLYCHROME SOUP PLATES
INDUS PATTERN
Ridgways Potteries
Stoke on Trent, Staffordshire England
c. 1885
These very desirable and sought after Victorian aesthetic 10 1/2 " soup plates are transfer printed in delicious dark brown with fabulous under the glaze hand painting. So large that we use them as our dinner serving plates.
The pattern features some of the most outrageous looking birds the potteries artist could imagine including exotic hummingbirds. A rim of wildly tropical flowers with hummingbirds. The well of the plate has aquatic flowers beneath two most unusual and exotic birds. A marvel of the imagination. This is as good as it gets!
The pieces are marked on the underside with an impressed registration mark, the pattern name and trademark that identifies the maker as Ridgways, a pottery maker working in Stoke on Trent in the Staffordshire region of England during the 19th century.
Never Used. Great Condition.
