SPECTACULAR STAFFORDSHIRE TRANSFERWARE WASH BOWL
CANOVA PATTERN
Thomas Mayer Potteries
Stoke Upon Trent ~
Staffordshire, England ~ c 1835
This outstanding transferware scalloped edge very large wash bowl measures 12 5/8 " wide x 4 3/8 “ tall. It is beautifully transfer printed in a rich dark black against a white background.
The piece features a deeply scalloped rim with four large cartouches of urns and sailing vessels and these are separated by insets of luscious flowers. The central well displays a magnificent scene of a man on a boat in a romantic setting. A very large urn complete with Roman naked soldiers.
This piece is in great condition, a small darkened spider to the base which does not go thru the pottery.
