Aesthetic Movement Brown Transferware Plate ~ Cherub
Incised Holland Pattern
MINTON POTTERY Stoke, Staffordshire England ~ c. 1873
This is a stunning plate measuring 9 inches in diameter. The transfer color is a rich bittersweet chocolate brown and further enhanced with hand painting in green, burnt orange and ocher red, professionally applied.
The rare plate is decorated with a gorgeous inset of a boy or cherub's head, heart on scarf around his neck, surrounded by swags of pearls and flowers-- a delightful tribute to the Victorian love of nature and the exotic. The piece is marked with the backstamp of Minton, a pottery maker in Stoke in the Staffordshire district of England, c. 1873.
Never Used. The piece is in great condition and displays beautifully, clean shiny and bright.
