AESTHETIC ERA BLACK TRANSFERWARE POT LID
ORIENTAL TOOTH PASTE
Ardwick Green ~ Manchester, England c. 1890
This early version large Victorian 2 3/4 " wide x 2 " tall covered ceramic earthenware container was made during Victorian times as a tooth cleaner and for freshening the breath. Dental hygiene was poor and a few chemists realized the importance of brushing one's teeth. A very attractive pot with an "ice crackling" transfer.
The piece is in great condition. a feint hairline to the bottom of the base. A lovely vanity item with real history. The piece will make a great addition to any collection of transfer printed advertising wares or quack medicines, and would make a fabulous gift for the dentist in your life!
