VICTORIAN AESTHETIC MOVEMENT ERA BROWN TRANSFERWARE PLATTER
GARFIELD PATTERN
Wallis Gimson Potteries
Staffordshire England c. 1885
This large Victorian aesthetic 15 5/8 " long x 12 1/2 " wide platter is transfer printed in dark chocolate brown with under the glaze hand painting in bright yellows and reds.
The pattern features a fantastic wide, busy band of Japanesque cartouches and alternating geometric flourishes with butterflies hidding among the flowers. Cascading cabbage roses spill into the well.
Great condition, clean shiny and bright. No chips, no cracks and no repairs. The piece is marked on the underside with an impressed registration mark and the Beehive trademark that identifies the maker as Wallis Gimson, a pottery maker working in Fenton in the Staffordshire region of England from 1884-1890.
