Ironstone DCL Pure YEAST Dairy Distillery Cheese Butter Grocer Stand c1900

This late 19th century ironstone DCL YEAST display stand dates to 1880 - 1900. Originally used for displaying yeast made bread products on the grocer’s shop counter. It measures 12 3/4” long and 10 7/8” across and 1” tall and has a concave well.

The decorative advertising is transfer-printed in black and underneath the glaze.

The stand maker is unknown. (We have seen similar stands marked with stamps of Wedgwood Doulton and MAW.) Undoubtedly other Victorian pottery firms made commercial advertising wares in the Staffordshire region of England, made to order for shop-fitters, breweries. A sturdy stand was meant for the heavy duty trade use and easily adaptable to a country kitchen or a contemporary cheese and wine shop.

The stand is in great condition with no signs of use.
