6 ~EARLY BLUE AESTHETIC TRANSFERWARE SOUP PLATES

These stunning transferware plates date to 1883.  The very large soup plates are 10 1/2 " in diameter.  The color is a rich dark blue with a golden luster rim.

The pattern is named PALMYRA, featuring a fantastic wide, busy band of sunflowers with a background of geometric shapes.  The well of the platter has a central flower pot full of oversized sunflowers surrounded by rows of buttercups and geometrical flourishes.

The piece is marked on the underside with an impressed registration mark, the pattern name the intials S. H.  that identifies the maker as Sampson Hancock, a pottery maker working in the Staffordshire region of England from 1858-1891.

The pieces are in excellent condition and never used.  There are no chips, cracks, no hairlines, and no repairs.
