EARLY CHILDS TRANSFERWARE PLATE
THE PROGRESS OF THE QUARTEM LOAF c. 1830
This very early child's plate measures 5 1/8 inches in diameter. The press molded border is highly decorated with scrolled flowers and vines. All of this is covered in a very heavy coating of a blueish pearlware glaze.
The central dark blue image transfer is of THE THRASHER ~ And see another friend appear, With active flail, the corn to thrash. To separate the clustering ears, And clear the Grain from stalk and trash.
This is from a series of 17 different patterns by Mary Elliot, referring to the Corn laws in England during the early 1800’s.
Condition is excellent and displays beautifully. Clean and bright. A very old child's plate with no chips, no cracks, no hairlines and no repairs.
