English Ironstone CHEESE Dairy Shop Display Stand c1890

RESERVED

Code: 11283

This 19th century ironstone CHEESE display stand dates to c 1890. Originally used for displaying cheese and other dairy products on the grocer’s shop counter. It measures a square 12 3/4 x 12 3/4 and 2 5/8” tall and has a concave well.

The decorative advertising is transfer-printed in black and underneath the glaze. The front of the stand reads “CHEESE”.

Made by G. Rushbrooke in the Staffordshire region of England.   A sturdy stand was meant for the heavy duty trade use and easily adaptable to a country kitchen or a contemporary cheese and wine shop.

This grocer’s slab is pristine, looks like it was kept in a cabinet for 125 years.

A very heavy substantial piece.  The workmanship is similar to early plumbing fitting, was meant to be durable.
