AESTHETIC POLYCHROME BROWN TRANSFERWARE TEA STAND TILE Staffordshire England c. 1880

This unusual oval tea tile measures 7" long and 5 1/2" across. Transfer printed in sepia brown embellished with underglaze enamel paint in a country palette of red blue and green. Made as a teapot stand or table trivet for a hot pot, probably originally part of a tea service.

The tile illustrates a colorful wild rose and blossoms, surrounded at the four corners with a sunflower. A strong asymmetrical

geometric motif, exemplifying the Victorian love of nature and the exotic.

The stand is in great condition, with 2 small gouges on the back rim, not visible from the front of the tile or when the tile is flat on a table. Rim wear, typical glaze crazing. The maker is unknown. The tile is marked with a painted decorator or pattern code 609F.

A rare and unusual find for your Aesthetic tea table.
