Tunstall, Staffordshire England c. 1883
This large Victorian aesthetic 9 3/4 " wide x 4 1/2 " tall raised serving plate is transfer printed in black with spectacular hand coloring under the glaze. The MELBOURNE pattern features delightful Japanesque geometric designs mixed with exotic palm trees and other tropicals. A shoreline with sailing vessels set to the horizon while a large flock of birds fly by.
An inset cartouche of a large Hawk perched as the Sun rises and another inset of a Tulip Tree flower. This pattern has everything going for it. The pattern displays the Victorian eras love of the exotic.
Possibly Never Used. Condition is Excellent. A stilt mark to the underside of the rim.
