EARLY CHILDS TRANSFERWARE MUG
A PRESENT FOR A JOHN
Staffordshire England ~ c. 1830
This is whimsical little child's transferware mug, circa 1830. This diminutive piece stands 2 1/2 " tall x 2 3/4 " wide with an applied loop handle. The mug is light weight and beautifully potted with a pearlware glaze.
It is transfer printed in black with a scene of a garden flower netting around the printed " A Present For John ".
The piece is unmarked. It most certainly was made in the Staffordshire district.
The condition of this exceptional mug is great. Clean and bright, and no wear. A very tint glaze rub to the top of the rim. Nicely potted and the transfers were applied with a good deal of attention to detail.
