BLUE TRANSFERWARE POT LID and Matching Base
BEARS GREASE
France c. 1885
This early 2 3/4 " wide x 2” 1/2 tall covered ceramic earthenware container was made during Victorian times in France and probably contained a salve made of bear's grease fat mixed with magical herbs. Quite the popular treatment to slick the hair down in Victorian times.
Rare to find pot lid for the collector.
The pieces are in good condition save for a bit of discoloration to the inside, a nibble off the underside of the lid and some chips along the flange to the base. A rare find.
