VICTORIAN AESTHETIC MOVEMENT PERIOD
BROWN TRANSFERWARE PLATTER
RARE CANTERBURY PATTERN
James Beech, Swan Bank Works Pottery
Tunstall, Staffordshire England ~ c. 1883
This Victorian aesthetic 12 " long x 9 5/8 " wide bacon or meat platter is transfer printed in very dark brown. Made as a meat platter for smaller meats such as bacon.
The pattern features fabulous geometric designs along the rim. The center of the platter is very busy with a honeycomb of wildly exotic flowers and whimsies. One cartouche of tropical flowers and another of an Egret flying above a watery marshland. By far one of the best and rarest aesthetic pattern especially in this condition.
Never Used and in great condition, clean and bright. No chips, no cracks, no hairlines and no repairs.
