Hand Painted Large Doulton Charger Platter ~ 1885 ~ Helen A. Arding
John Doulton Lambeth Potteries
London, England c. 1879
This large round Victorian 12 1/4 inch wide charger platter is beautifully hand painted under the glaze by a meter artist during late Victorian time, Helen A. Arding.
Whisky wild grasses and a Hummingbird in flight. The rim is outstanding.
Helen Arding was known for her painting of flowers for Doulton pottery, this must have been something she painted in her private times.
The piece is marked on the underside with an impressed registration mark and the trademark that identifies the maker as John Doulton, a pottery maker working in London England from 1815. Her signature initials and artist number are on back as well.
The piece is in great condition, appears to have never been used. Clean shiny and bright and there are no chips, no cracks, no hairline and no repairs.
